A FITTING CROWN

MATTHEW 27:28-29

The Romans were the masters of political theater. Rome did not miss a chance to demonstrate her imperial authority and domination, from triumphal arches built to commemorate the conquest of walled cities to the worship of emperors. Not even when a prisoner is sentenced to death for sedition.

On good Friday, an execution was certain. Soldiers were well aware of the situation. Jesus had declared Himself king and was sentenced to death by the demand of the Jews. They dressed Him up in a royal robe, crown, and scepter to show how ridiculous His claim was.

So, when the time came, the Son of God put to rest His celestial glory, a crown that never fades, and took on flesh. Then Jesus Christ, the genuine and only King of the world, donned our crown and bore the divine wrath that you, I, and every other counterfeit king descended from Adam deserved.

🙏🏼We beseech You, Almighty God, to look upon this Your family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and delivered up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death on the cross, and who now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end.
