PSALM 1
According to the theory of experiential learning, we learn through a cycle of learning, our experience serves as a basis for reflection. From the reflections, we develop ideas about the world. So we test the ideas for their accuracy and finally have a new experience.
But is experience always the best teacher?
The attempt to learn from experience has overwhelmed many immature Christians and ultimately turned them against God. Of course, we are in the world and we are exposed to non-Christian situations at school, work and our neighbourhood, but we have to be careful that exposure to these situations does not lead us to accept godless philosophies. We would all mature faster if we followed the divine pattern suggested in Psalm 1 (by delighting in the word of God).
Advice from other sources can lead us away from God. Instead, it is best to receive our training and advice from the holy word of God and those who know and love it. God and His Word, not experiences, should be our best teacher.
🙏 Lord let Your Word fill our memories, rule our hearts, and guide our lives.
