MATTHEW 1:18-25
Joseph – the father of Jesus. After the stories of the nativity, we do not hear much about him. If we did not know him better, we would think he was an insignificant passer-by, or at most a mere necessity, to support Jesus’ claim to the throne of David.
But in fact, the role played by Joseph was strategically important. If he had not obeyed the angel’s command to marry Mary (Matthew 1:20), he would have ruined the whole mission of Jesus from a human point of view. Taking Mary for a wife was a dangerous task. The public perception that he was the child’s father put him in serious violation of Jewish law and made him a public disgrace. Yet today we are all thankful that he was willing to risk his reputation to participate and facilitate the unfolding of God’s drama.
Some of us seem insignificant compared to the big players in this world. But we are all called to obey. Who knows what God will do when we are ready to submit to His will – even when it puts us in danger.
🙏Lord, use us for Your glory. Use us to minister to those around us each day in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
