STUCK IN THE MUD

JEREMIAH 20:7-13

Jeremiah was called “the weeping prophet”. Perhaps he had a sensitive and melancholic disposition that was compounded by his fear of God’s judgment on disobedient Israel. His sense of pain is amazing.

As if the pain of his nation was not enough, Jeremiah was haunted for his prophetic message of judgment. In one case, he was locked in a cistern filled with mud. (Jeremiah 38: 6). Resistance to his ministry had left the great prophet trapped in a place of despair.

Sometimes in our attempts to serve the Lord, we can feel stuck in painful circumstances and frightening heart pain. But the resilience of the prophet should inspire us to endure. The sense of Jeremiah’s divine calling was so strong that he could not be dissuaded from serving the Lord (Jeremiah 20: 9).

Have the results of your service to the Lord been disappointing? Ask Him to renew your heart with His Spirit, to continue serving Him despite your setbacks.

🙏 Lord, may we not be weary in our serving.
