DO NOT EXHAUST YOURSELF

EXODUS 18:13-26

A clergyman was invited by his daughter to officiate at her wedding. But there was one main problem – he would have to play three distinct roles that could be in conflict. He would be the officiating minister, the father of the bride, and the wedding photographer!

Have we ever felt as though we were wearing too many hats? Jethro thought his son-in-law Moses was. Leading the Israelites, settling disputes and judging large crowds, was taking its toll on him. Finally, Jethro approached Moses, telling him that the work was too much for him. He wisely advised Moses to delegate smaller disputes to other capable men and take the greater cases himself.

Whether we are mothers with young children, overwhelmed business people, or overworked Church volunteers, we can learn a lesson from the case of Moses. We must prayerfully identify whether there are tasks that we can delegate to others or even give up, so that we do not wear ourselves out.

If we do not rest, we would simply destroy ourselves!

🙏Father, we need help with our priorities. Teach us to understand what is most important and what needs to be achieved, and to let go of what we can in order to be the best for You. Amen.
