2 CORINTHIANS 3:3
I love writing books. It is my desire that many people should write too. But it is better to be a book than to write one.
I want us to meditate on the words of apostle Paul: “Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.” (2 Corinthians 3:3)
Lewis Bayly, chaplain to King James I of England said that one who hopes to effect any good by his writings will find that he will instruct very few. He claimed that the most powerful means of promoting what is good is by example. One man in a thousand can write a book to instruct his neighbours, but every man can be a pattern of living excellence to those around him.
The work that Christ is doing in the lives of believers can result in an influence far greater than any book they might write.
We may never be able to write books, but by living for God we become books! “Epistles of Christ” for all to read.
Ask yourself today: “If someone were to read my life like a book, will they find Jesus in its pages?”
* Lord, may our unsaved neighbours be won to You while reading us, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
