DRESSING AND KEEPING THE EARTH

GENESIS 2:15

Why do we work? Is it simply to provide for ourselves and for our loved ones or dependants? What about labour that is not paid for – why do we do that?

Money is not and should not be the only reason to work. Working can also give us more independence and more control over our own lives. When we work, we are learning new things, getting more skills, and making friends with people we meet through our job.

God placed the first human, Adam in the garden to “to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis 2:15).

We are made in God’s image to carefully tend and watch over the world He made. Genesis declares that the one true God made us to be His representatives – to steward what He had made on His behalf. Work is a call to cultivate God’s world for His glory.

What work has God given us to do? We can still dress and keep the “earth” by His grace.
