TWO PENETRATING QUESTIONS

MARK 4:40

Fear has a way of overtaking us and making such an impact on our lives that we feel there is nothing we can do. Our fears contribute to our mental health issues such as our depression and anxiety, and they become these invisible but totally debilitating, overpowering, destructive forces in our lives.

As they crossed the sea of Galilee, Jesus’ disciples experienced the intense power of fear as a great storm arose. It distorted their vision and caused them to query Jesus’ concern for them.

After He rebuked the wind and spoke calmness to the sea, Jesus confronted the disciples with two penetrating questions – “Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?”

Storms rage in our lives too. But Jesus’ questions can help us tackle our fears. His first question invites us to name our fears – “Why are ye so fearful?” The second invites us to entrust our distorted feelings to Him – so we can see how He guides us through the storms – “How is it that ye have no faith?”

What storms are we facing today? Let us entrust our fears and emotions to Jesus.
