THE GENTLE WARRIOR

PROVERBS 15:1; LUKE 6:27-28

The story is told of a man who was physically weak and frail that everybody in his neighbourhood took him for granted. One day he mistakenly broke the window of his next door neighbour, a very big man, with the ladder he was trying to move. The big man rushed out angrily, ready for a fight, but his frail neighbour only apologised and promised to replace it. The big man asked him not to worry and with a smile shook his hands. The battle was over.

Our human nature makes us want to fight the enemy on his terms – anger for anger, hate for hate, word for word, etc. But both Solomon and Jesus advised just the opposite. Not all wars are won on the battle ground. Some are won on the negotiation table, some with a smile, others with an apology, most by our good acts of love.

Let the Lord teach us how to fight our next battle. We may just be the next gentle warriors.
