PAYING ATTENTION

PSALM 41:1–3

Finding someone in need of consolation these days is not difficult: A weary supermarket cashier who is taking on a second job to supplement her income; a refugee yearning to return home; a single mother whose anxiety has drained her of hope; an elderly guy who is alone and believes he has outlived his usefulness.

David wrote, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor.” We can consider the poor by paying attention, showing care, treating them with respect, listening to their stories, and praying for them or with them. This act of kindness and consideration can help alleviate poverty and promote healing.

Recall the classic paradox presented to us in Acts 20:35: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” It pays to pay attention because we are happiest when we give of ourselves. Take those who are disadvantaged into consideration.

🙏Father, please show us the common people in our daily lives who need our help. As You have so patiently loved us, grant us the love and endurance to really think about them.
