LUKE 24:44–49
One of the three kinds of redwoods, the sequoia tree is one of the biggest and most resilient species on the planet. It can live for three thousand years, reach a height of three hundred feet, and weigh more than 2.5 million pounds (1.1 million kg). However, much of the massive sequoia’s size and lifespan can be attributed to what is underneath the surface. Spread across an acre of ground, the towering height and astounding weight of this plant are firmly grounded by a matting of roots that is twelve to fourteen feet deep.
But the vast network of roots that a redwood tree has is nothing compared to the religious, historical, and prophetic support that surrounds Jesus’ life. He once told religious leaders that His tale was told in the Scriptures they loved and trusted (John 5:39). He opened the scroll of Isaiah in the synagogue of Nazareth and read a passage that described Himself (Luke 4:21).
Jesus explained the necessity of His suffering, death, and resurrection from the words of Moses, the prophets, and the songs of Israel to His disciples (Luke 24:46).
How glorious and gracious it is to witness Jesus entrenched in a country’s history and scriptures and to realise how deeply our own lives are anchored in our dependence on Him.
🙏Father in heaven, help us never forget that the history of Israel and the inspired words of Scripture ground us in Your Son.
