1 KINGS 3:1–5
A young man once saved for months to buy his mother a special gift. Its value mattered less than the love behind it. In the same way, Solomon loved the Lord before he offered sacrifices (1 Kings 3:3). True giving begins with a heart that genuinely loves God.
In 1 Kings 3:1–5, Solomon worshipped God at Gibeon, where the Lord appeared to him in a dream. His sacrifice was an expression of his relationship with God. Scripture shows that God values obedience and love above outward religious activities.
Our offerings, service and sacrifices must flow from genuine love for God and others. Before asking, “What have I given?” we should ask, “Do I truly love the Lord?” Let our worship, giving and service spring from a sincere heart.
