1 KINGS 2:36-46
A runner may promise to finish a race, but exhaustion tests whether determination matches his words. Likewise, our promises can weaken when desire or pressure takes control. We must therefore guard our commitments and depend on God’s strength.
In 1 Kings 2:36-46, Solomon instructed Shimei to remain in Jerusalem, warning that leaving would cost him his life. Shimei agreed but later pursued his runaway servants outside the city. His disobedience brought the consequence he had been warned about. His story reminds us that words alone cannot overcome temptation or change consequences.
Today, pause before making promises, especially those made in God’s name. Seek His wisdom, control your impulses, and faithfully honour your commitments. Remember that God sees both our actions and motives.
🙏 May God strengthen your heart, guide your steps, and help you faithfully honour every commitment.
