1 KINGS 2:19-27
A student was offered two options: one brought instant praise, while the other required patience but promised lasting value. He chose the applause and later regretted it. We can also lose what matters by chasing what merely looks desirable.
In 1 Kings 2:19-27, Adonijah’s request for Abishag was not simply about affection. Solomon discerned that it concealed a renewed attempt to gain royal influence. Adonijah’s failure to let go of ambition eventually cost him his life.
We must therefore examine what drives our choices. Are we pursuing God’s purpose or craving recognition, influence and control? In our families, workplaces and churches, we should beware of manipulation and hidden agendas. Choose obedience over ambition, and God’s kingdom over temporary gains.
