HABAKKUK 3:16–19
Hinds Feet on High Places is a classic allegory of Christian life, based on Habakkuk 3:19. It tells us about Much-Afraid, who is scared and asks the Shepherd to carry her. The Shepherd told her that if he carried her to the High Places himself, she could not develop hinds’ feet. Much-Afraid echoes the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk’s questions about suffering and the difficulty of the journey. The story highlights the importance of companionship and the struggle to overcome fear.
Habakkuk, a prophet living in Judah in the late seventh century BC, faced social injustice and fear of imminent invasion from the Babylonians. He sought the Lord’s intervention to remove suffering, and God promised to act justly in His timing. Habakkuk chose to trust in God, believing that even if suffering continued, God would continue to be his strength.
It is reassuring to know that the Lord is our strength to bear suffering and will utilise even the most trying experiences to strengthen our relationship with Him.
We can rely on the Lord to be our pillar of support throughout difficult times.
🙏 May the Lord God of heaven strengthen you to trust Him as He walks with you each day. Let His face shine upon you and let Him be gracious to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
