1 SAMUEL 17:33-50
The French-built and Greek-owned cruise ship MTS Oceanos sank due to uncontrollable flooding. As MTS Oceanos’ cruise ship encountered a violent storm on August 4, 1991, off the coast of South Africa, the captain made the decision to leave the ship when it started to sink and fled with his officers without informing anyone else on board of any issues. British musician and passenger Moss Hills sensed a problem and sent a Mayday signal to the South African coast guard. Moss, his wife Tracy, and other entertainers on board then organised the evacuation of all passengers by supporting them as they were carried into helicopters.
Those who we turn to for leadership can disappoint us at times. When the Philistine giant Goliath taunted King Saul and his officers, they reacted out of fear and despair (1 Samuel 17:11). However, a young shepherd and musician named David had a change of perspective due to his faith in God. He destroyed the enemy and changed the course of the battle. For strength, he turned to the real God rather than to rulers on earth.
God may be inviting us to take command in His name and for His glory when others fail us.
🙏🏻Dear Lord, give me the courage to help others as I rely on Your strength that cannot fail.
