MATTHEW 8:23-27
The passengers disembarked the cruise ship as soon as it arrived at the port. A virus outbreak had been plaguing them for the past two days, and hundreds of people had fallen ill as a result. When asked about his experience, one passenger said, “Well, I do not intend to complain so much. I mean, I am aware that everyone was in the same boat.” The reporter smiled at his apparent unintended pun.
In Matthew 8, the disciples joined Jesus as He boarded the boat (v. 23). Jesus’ disciples feared for their safety as a severe storm arose. They roused Jesus from his sleep, who they believed was unconscious of the emergency.
Jesus was actually traveling in the same boat as His people, yet He showed no worry for the weather. He was unafraid of a storm since He was the all-powerful Creator.
However, we are not immortal, and we are incredibly vulnerable to fear. So what should we do when we are surrounded by life’s storms? We can be sure of this: We are in the same boat as the One who even the winds and the sea obey, whether they pass quickly or linger for a while.
Whenever a Christian is in trouble, God is always closer than the threat.
🙏🏻Lord Jesus, may we see You today – especially when we are tempted to panic or to do things in our own strength.
