THE ISSUE WITH PRIDE

PROVERBS 16:18-19

“Legends in their own time” are individuals who achieve greatness and achieve fame during their lifetimes. A friend once claimed that he encountered numerous athletes who were merely “legends in their own minds.” We tend to exaggerate how we see ourselves out of pride, believing that we are the best thing ever. But humility is accepting who we truly are, together with all of our strengths and shortcomings.

When we think of ourselves as better than we actually are, or at least better than everyone else, it might cause bigger issues since it makes us more egocentric and cut off from our friends.

The humility that results from knowing God is the antidote to our pride.

The enjoyment of achievement is perfectly acceptable. The challenge is to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus since He wants us to follow and entirely depend on Him rather than on ourselves. Let us keep to His counsel – “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29).

🙏🏼Give us Your humility, Lord Jesus, as we interact with others today. May we always keep You in mind when acting and speaking.
