ROMANS 16:1-7
Grace Darling, the daughter of an English lighthouse keeper, spotted a shipwreck and survivors offshore on September 7, 1838. She and her father rowed their boat for a mile through rough waters to save several people. Grace became a legend for her compassionate heart and light touch in putting her life in danger to save others.
Another man and woman team who took risks to save others is described by the apostle Paul. He wrote about Priscilla and Aquila, two of his coworkers in Christ who risked their own lives to save his (Rom. 16:3-4).
We do not really know what “risk” Paul was referring to, but with beatings, imprisonment, shipwrecks, and death threats so common in Paul’s ministry, it is easy to see how this couple would put themselves in danger to help their friend. They seemed to prioritise Paul’s rescue over their own safety.
Whether from physical or spiritual danger, rescuing others is often dangerous. However, when we take a chance by reaching out to others, we reflect the heart of our Saviour, who gave up so much for us.
🙏🏼 Lord, be with us as we take risks to reach out to others.
