TEST TIME

MARK 4:35–41

“Clear your desks of all items, and get a sheet of paper and a pencil.” When I was a student, these dreaded words announced that “test time” had come.

In Mark 4, Jesus’ day began with teaching by the seaside and ended with a time of testing on the sea. Jesus and His disciples were crossing to the other side of the sea when they encountered a swirling storm. He was asleep. His disciples woke Him, asking if He did not care if they drowned. Jesus responded with a powerful command to the winds of nature: “Peace, be still!” This powerful moment in Mark 4 highlights the importance of listening and being still in the face of adversity.

The wind obeyed, and fear-filled disciples asked, “What manner of man is this?” The question was good, but it took them time to honestly conclude Jesus was God’s Son. Today, sincere, honest, open-hearted questions and experiences lead people to the same conclusion: Jesus is more than a teacher to listen to; He is the God to be worshipped.

🙏Thank You, Father, for Your Word, which enables us to recognise Jesus as Your Son. Help us in listening to You and putting our faith in Your power.
